CLARKSDALE- Coahoma Community College Basketball weathered an intense battle against Arkansas Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers made a magical comeback from a significant second-half deficit and took a 72-71 lead on 2 of 3 free throws by
Kendall Richardson with 7.5 seconds remaining. Caleb Parker took charge and scored a driving layup to give the Buffaloes a cringing 73-72 victory at the Pinnacle.
The Buffaloes' most significant lead, 68-57 with 8:27 remaining, got spectators locked into the game. Coahoma bounced back with a 15-3 run. Richardson scored seven of the Tigers' last 15 points.
Coahoma took an early 10-8 lead when
Cornelius Holly scored their first five points of the game. Arkansas Baptist answered with consecutive baskets by Tyler Cubit. They spiked the lead to 19-14.
Tyras Bolden rose off the bench scoring eight points in the first half. The Tigers went on a 9-0 run when
Troy Johnson scored consecutive layups. They led 39-36 with 36 seconds left in the first half.
The Buffaloes answered with a driving layup by Devonta Harkless. Coahoma led 39-38 at the half.
Harkless was a factor starting the second half by scoring eight points giving the Buffaloes a 49-43 lead.
Jordan O'Neal put on strength and intensity by going on a 10-0 scoring run for the Tigers. He scored 17 points in the second half. Coahoma shot the lead to 55-53.
The Buffaloes outscored Coahoma 13-4 to build their biggest lead of the game (68-57).
Arkansas Baptist had five players to pull off a double-figured performance. Harkless led the Buffaloes with 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Marcus Hunter tallied 14 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Kendrick Thorn scored 11 points. Parker scored 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Cubit made 10 points and two rebounds.
Three outstanding Mighty Tigers were a double digit hit during the game. O'Neal won over fans with 24 points and eight rebounds. Holly mounted 14 points, two rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Richardson pocketed 11 points and three assists.
The Coahoma Community College Mighty Tigers goes to (2-2) on the season. The Tigers will continue the season at the Mississippi Delta Thanksgiving Shootout in Moorhead, Mississippi, on Monday, November 25, 2019, at 5 p.m. where they will take on the Royal Ambassadors. On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 3 p.m., they are set to face Baton Rouge Community College.
