Tigers Loses Heartbreaker Against Trojans

MOORHEAD- Two years ago, Coahoma ended a three-year losing streak against Mississippi Delta in Moorhead, MS. In 2018, the Tigers were looking for their 3rd straight win in the rivalry. The Trojans got their prayer answered on a "Hail Mary" touchdown as time expired in a 27-26 victory on Thursday night at the Jim Randall Stadium.

Coahoma had a 26-20 lead with four seconds remaining. Mississippi Delta had one last chance for the win. Tyrique McAfee connected with Raheem Moore for a 48-yard touchdown tying the game 26-26. Spencer Romero knocked down the game-winning extra point.

The Tigers scored on their first possession of the game 6-0 when Myron Norfleet connected with Legend Moore for a 54-yard touchdown.

Coahoma was on the move again when Norfleet connected with Donnie Corley for a 6-yard touchdown extending the lead with a 12-3 score.

The Trojans came back quickly when McAfee connected with Moore for a 5-yard touchdown cutting the lead to 12-10 at the half.

Mississippi Delta had a big drive to start the 2nd half. McAfee connected with Marquise McCoy for a five-yard touchdown giving the Trojans a 17-12 lead.

Coahoma's defense stepped up to get back in the game. Dangelo Scales forced a fumble on McAfee and Will Robinson recovered the fumble at the Trojan's 3-yard line.

The Tigers took advantage making the score 20-17 on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Norfleet to Coley.

Romero came up big for the Trojans with a 30-yard field goal tying the game 20-20.

Coahoma bounced back when Norfleet connected with Moore for a six-yard touchdown.

Coahoma had 260 yards total offense including 142 rushing yards and 118 passing yards. Norfleet led the Tigers with 15 of 33 passes for 118 yards, six carries for 45 yards and four touchdowns. Jaylin Jones had 17 carries for 103 yards. Moore finished with seven catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Corley had five catches for 35 yards and two touchdowns.

Coahoma goes to 0-5 (0-3 MACJC North) on the season. They will play their final non-division game at the 2018 Homecoming game against Hinds next Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018. The kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. at James E. Miller Stadium. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on Coahoma's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
