CCC Baseball Pushes #8 East Central In Hard-Fought Weekend Doubleheader

Wilson stars with 5 hits and 5 RBIs

CLARKSDALE — CCC Baseball pushed #8 East Central in a home baseball doubleheader Saturday, giving the Warriors a great battle before falling 16-14 in Game 1 and 9-4 in Game 2. Hunter Wilson finished with 5 hits and 5 RBIs in the twinbill. The contests were the first in conference play for the Tigers.

CCC got off to a rough start in Game 1, falling behind as the hard-hitting Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Tigers fought back with a 3-run bottom half of the 1st to immediately get back in the game and start a back-and-forth affair in which the team led twice. East Central eventually established a 16-10 lead that CCC narrowly missed overcoming.

Wyatt Bailey suffered the loss for Coahoma after relieving starter Chance Cotton. Hunter Wilson racked up 4 hits, including 2 doubles, in the loss and also accumulated 4 RBIs. Hector Torres racked up 3 hits, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in Game 2 before a 5-run 3rd inning by the Warrior offense vs. CCC starter Eduardo Munoz helped them seize control. Wilson added another hit and another RBI in the afternoon's 2nd game. Hayden Tapper and Drew Smith each reached base twice. Torres added a double and Marquellus Edgeston added a triple in the effort.

CCC Baseball (9-7, 0-2 MACJC) enjoys 2 days off before continuing its conference schedule with a home doubleheader vs. Meridian. The team remains at home Saturday with a doubleheader vs. #13 Missississippi Gulf Coast.
