CLARKSDALE — The CCC Lady Tigers earned their first MACJC North win with an 87-76 victory over the Lady Rangers of Northwest Thursday. Tomaja Shaw and Kayla Rogers combined for 39 points in the victory. The team closes out its season this upcoming week at Holmes on Monday and at home Thursday vs. Mississippi Delta.
The Lady Tigers led nearly the entire game vs. the Lady Rangers, turning in a dominant performance that saw the lead swell as large as 25. Shaw scored 18 of her 20 in the first half and finished the contest 8 of 14 from the field. Rogers finished 8 of 16, scoring 19 and pulling down 8 rebounds in 35 minutes.
Tranika Echols narrowly missed a triple-double in arguably her best all-around game of the season, scoring 11, notching 10 rebounds and dishing out 8 dimes. Carnita Hammond scored 15 points and addded 8 boards and 3 blocks. Diamond Love scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers shot 49% (32-66) from the field while holding Northwest to just 32% (28-88). Northwest had 3 players finish in double figures. The team was led by Janesha Johnson, who scored 18. The loss dropped Northwest to 11-9 and 5-6 in divisional play.
The Lady Tigers (2-18, 1-9 MACJC North) return to action Monday night at Holmes. Start time vs. the Lady Bulldogs is slated for 6 pm. The game will be a rematch of the teams' January 26th contest in The Pinnacle, which Holmes won 74-66.
