Jenkins With Another 15/15 Performance vs. Holmes

Sophomore scores 17, grabs 15 boards in loss

CLARKSDALE — Melvinisha Jenkins registered 15 points and 15 rebounds for the 3rd straight game, but CCC Lady Tiger Basketball dropped its MACJC North matchup with Holmes Thursday 74-66 in The Pinnacle. Tomaja Shaw, Kayla Rogers and Carnita Hammond also scored in double figures for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers got out to an early lead, building it as large as 6 in the early part of the 2nd quarter. Strong play toward the end of the half helped Holmes take a 36-31 lead after the game's first 20 minutes.

The Lady Bulldogs expanded their lead as high as 21 in the 3rd quarter, but steady, tough play by the Lady Tigers helped to cut the lead to 8 by game's end. The gritty effort was keyed by Jenkins, who totaled 17 points and 15 boards. The forward finished 11 of 12 from the free throw line on her way to her 4th double-double of the season. Shaw finished with 12 points and Rogers and Hammond each finished with 10.

The win improved Holmes to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in divisional play. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Vaquela Pimpton and Lauren Brooks, who each netted 12 points.

The Lady Tigers (1-14, 0-5 MACJC North) travel to Mississippi Delta for a rivalry game Monday. Tip in Moorhead is slated for 6 pm. A live stream will be available at coahomasports.com/watch.
