MOORHEAD — Diamond Love poured in a career-high 20 points and Melvinisha Jenkins registered her 4th straight double-double, but the Lady Tigers came up just short at Mississippi Delta Monday. The team dropped its MACJC North matchup vs. Delta 81-75.
A tight contest throughout, the Lady Tigers took a 39-37 lead to the locker room behind 10 first half points and 7 first half rebounds from Melvinisha Jenkins. Love truly came to life in the 2nd half, scoring 14 of her 20 in the game's 2nd 20 minutes.
After 3 quarters, the Lady Trojans seized the advantage at 57-53. With multiple Lady Tigers in foul trouble, the home team used a run at the start of the 4th open up a lead that, at one point, grew to double digits. CCC battled back to within 6 but could not complete the comeback effort vs. their rivals.
Delta was led by Alexis Augustus, who poured in a game-high 26 points while also grabbing 5 rebounds. The win improved the Lady Trojans to 1-5 in divisional play and 2-13 overall.
Love was efficient all evening, finishing 7 of 14 from the field. Jenkins finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Tranika Echols added 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Carnita Hammond chipped in 9 points, 6 boards and 2 blocks.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers drop to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the MACJC North. The squad returns to action Thursday at Northeast in a rematch of the teams' December 5th contest, which CCC dropped 76-59. Tip in Booneville is slated for 5:30.
