Echols, Jenkins Star In Shootout At Northwest

Tranika Echols scores season-best 21 in loss vs. NWCC

SENATOBIA - The Lady Tigers dropped a high-scoring MACJC North matchup with the Northwest Lady Rangers 95-89 Monday. Tranika Echols exploded for a season-high 21 points, and Melvinisha Jenkins added 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers took an early advantage behind strong play from Echols, who distributed well from the point and knocked down 2 of 3 3-point attempts. The sophomore would finish 8 of 10 from the field in her most efficient game of 2016-17.

The Lady Rangers used a 9-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 51-41 lead to the locker room. CCC stayed tough, winning the 4th quarter 29-23 but ultimately could not catch up completely. The 89 points were the team's highest output of the season in conference play and their most since defeating Southwest Christian College 99-69 on November 11th.

Jenkins' 16-point, 15-rebound performance was the 2nd game in a row and 3rd time overall this season that she has scored at least 15 points while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Carnita Hammond netted 11 points while equaling Jenkins' Lady Tiger season-high of 20 rebounds. Diamond Love finished with a personal-season high 16 points. Tomaja Shaw netted 18 and has now scored 34 points over the last 2 games.

Northwest was led by Averyale Joy and Janesha Johnson, who scored 18 and 16 respectively. The Lady Tigers outshot their opponents 43% to 40% from the field. Northwest won the battle of the board 55-52. The win improved the home team to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in divisional play.

CCC (1-13, 0-4 MACJC North) returns home vs. Holmes Thursday. The Lady Tigers will tip against the Lady Bulldogs at 6 pm. A live stream will be available at coahomasports.com/watch.
