Lady Tigers Fall To Jones In Home Return

Jenkins with 14 points, 9 boards

CLARKSDALE - The Lady Tigers fell to the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats 81-55 Thursday in The Pinnacle despite strong performances from Melvinisha Jenkins and Tya Edwards. Jenkins finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Edwards netted a season-high 16 points on the strength of 4 of 8 shooting from deep.

For Jenkins, the solid performance continued a trend. Coming off a 22 point/20 rebound performance at East Central November 14th, she proved to be the Lady Tigers' most effective weapon against the stifling JCJC defense.

Nikerria Harris, who entered the week 4th in NJCAA Basketball with 3.3 blocks per game, also kept up her torrid pace. The freshman registered 5 blocks. It was the 4th time in 8 games that Harris has accumulated at least 3 blocks. She also poured in 10 points.

The Lady Bobcats were Nique Cherry, who scored 19 points while grabbing 13 assists and dishing 5 assists. Mayyah West added 15 points and 8 rebounds of her own. Five Lady Bobcats finished in double figures.

The victory was the 5th of the season for Jones, who had won each of their previous 4 games by at least 36 points. The loss was the 7th of the season for the Lady Tigers. The home game was the first since November 7th for CCC.

CCC returns to action Monday, December 5th vs. Northeast Mississippi. Tip-off in The Pinnacle is scheduled for 6 pm. The contest will be the first MACJC North Division matchup of the season for the team.
