Strong Games By Shaw, Rogers Not Enough For Lady Tigers In Ellisville

Sophomore Tomaja Shaw records 15 points in final game of 1st semester

ELLISVILLE - CCC Lady Tiger Basketball dropped its final game of the 1st semester 116-68 at Jones Monday night despite 15 points from Tomaja Shaw and 12 points each from Kayla Rogers and Tya Edwards. The squad returns to action January 9th at Copiah-Lincoln.

The Lady Tigers used 3's by former Lady Bobcat Dana Brown and Edwards to keep the contest close in the 1st quarter. At the first turn, JCJC led 26-18. The home side reeled off an impressive scoring display on its home court in the 2nd, running the score to 61-26 at the halftime break against a Lady Tiger side playing without one of its best defenders, Nikerria Harris, due to injury.

A strong 2nd half helped propel Shaw to a 15-point performance. The sophomore nailed 3 3-pointers a week after going off for 19 points on the strength of 5 3-pointers vs. Northeast.

The contest was the 8th time in 10 games that Kayla Rogers has scored in double figures. The 12-point performance was the 3rd straight in double figures for the freshman from Amanda Elzy, Tya Edwards. Melvinisha Jenkins finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals, matching her season high defensively.

The Lady Bobcats were led by Nique Cherry, who turned in a perfect 12 for 12 performance from the field on her way to 26 points. Tatyana Lofton hit 5 3-pointers to help chip in 23 points, and Juliet Esadah added 18 of her own.

The win helped the Lady Bobcats improve to 7-1 (0-1 MACJC South), while the Lady Tigers dropped to 1-9 (0-1 MACJC North). CCC returns to action after the winter break at Copiah-Lincoln. The first tip of the 2nd semester is slated for January 9th at 6 pm.
