ELLISVILLE - Tiger Basketball dropped its 1st semester finale at Jones Monday night, falling to the #25 Bobcats 90-73. Cortavious Miller led the team in scoring with 15 points, and LeDarius Woods racked up 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss. The team returns to action January 9th at Copiah-Lincoln following the winter break.
A close first half saw Jones take a 42-36 lead to the locker rooms at the buzzer. Miller got going early, using a crafty post game on his way to finishing 5 of 8 from the field and 5 of 6 from the line. The sophomore would also finish with 7 rebounds in his strongest all-around performance so far this season.
A 2nd half run would swell the Jones lead to as large as 15 with just under 9 minutes to go. Woods, who scored all his points in the 2nd half, helped to key a comeback effort that dwindled the Bobcat lead to 76-71 just shy of the 5-minute mark. A late surge by the home team though would put the contest out of reach.
Point guard Frank Anthony finished with 11 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Malik Bailey chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds, and Quatavis Henderson added 10 points of his own for the Tigers. 5 CCC players finished in double figures scoring the basketball.
The Bobcats were led by by center Bruce Stevens, who racked up 18 points and 16 rebounds. Guard/forward Xavier Howard finished with 15 points. Jones outshot CCC from the field 44% to 37% to go to 9-0 (1-0 MACJC South) on the season. The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-9 (0-1 MACJC North).
CCC returns to action January 9th at Copiah-Lincoln. Tip in Wesson is slated for 8 pm.
