CLARKSDALE - The CCC Lady Tigers Basketball team fell 97-74 to Co-Lin in The Pinnacle Monday despite a huge performance from Melvinisha Jenkins and another strong game from Nikerria Harris. Jenkins, a sophomore from Friars Point, netted 21 points and racked up 3 rebounds. Freshman forward/center Harris finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds plus a season-high 8 blocks.
Devastating shooting by the Lady Wolves helped to establish a 51-29 lead at half. Co-Lin shot the ball at a 65% clip from the field in the 1st half and 58% for the game on its way to improving to 3-0 on the season. The visitors were led by Brittany Rose, who scored 20 points while also accumulating 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers enjoyed their best free throw shooting game of the season, going 26 of 32 from the line. Jenkins' 20+ point performance was her first of the season. It was the 3rd time in 4 games this season that Harris has gone off for at least 12 points and 7 boards in the same game. The 8 blocks are a season-high for the Lady Tigers and a season-high in the MACJC so far this season. Sophomore Dana Brown finished with 11 points and 4 assists, and Kayla Rogers chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds herself.
The Lady Tigers return to action this weekend at the Southern Classic in Shreveport, Louisiana. The team will take on Southwestern Christian College Friday at 2 pm and then battle Southern University - Shreveport Saturday at 6 pm. Both games will be played on the campus of SUSLA.
