Lady Tigers Fall At East Central Despite Big Games From Rogers, Jenkins, Harris

DECATUR - The CCC Lady Tigers fell to the East Central Lady Warriors 104-97 Monday night in Decatur despite a 33-point performance by Kayla Rogers and a 22 point/20 rebound performance by Melvinisha Jenkins. After a marathon start to the season that featured 7 games in 11 days, the team will enjoy a 2-plus week break before returning to action vs. Jones County December 1st at home.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Warriors engaged in a high-scoring 1st quarter that saw the 2 teams combine for 55 points. Rogers dropped 18 points in the opening period alone. The teams remained close in the 2nd, and ECCC took a 54-50 lead to the locker rooms at the halftime break.

Behind a strong performance by Jenkins, the Lady Tigers were able to win the 3rd quarter and take a 75-74 advantage to the 4th. The contest was the finest all-around game of the season for the sophomore Jenkins, who became the first Lady Tiger to post 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game this season. Nikerria Harris came up huge defensively, registering 8 blocks while also accounting for 17 points and 8 rebounds. Harris has emerged as one of the top shot blockers in the MACJC, accumulating 23 rejections through the team's 1st 7 games.

With 5 minutes remaining Coahoma led 91-86 before the defending state champion Lady Warriors closed the game on an 18-6 run to earn their 3rd win of the season. ECCC was led by Khelsea Foster, who finished with 27 points, Autumn Taylor, who finished with 23, and LaNeisha Jeans, who finished with 20.

The Lady Tigers (1-6) return to MACJC action December 1st at home vs. Jones County. Tip is slated for 6 pm. A live stream will be available at coahomasports.com/watch.
