CLARKSDALE - Tiger Basketball rolled to a 120-104 preseason win over Faith Prep Academy in The Pinnacle Thursday night. The team poured in 22 3-pointers to power the victory in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Sophomores Frank Anthony, Shannon Bailey and LeDarius Woods led the way early. The Tigers started the game on a 9-0 run and ultimately opened a comfortable 67-37 lead at half. Bailey sank 4 3's in the first half alone on his way to a team-high 18. Woods added 3 1st half 3's on his way to 14 points, and fellow Itawamba transfer Anthony orchestrated the offense with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Freshman Zyshonne Burnett came alive in the 2nd half to finish with 17 points, and the Tigers finished with 6 players scoring in double figures and 8 scoring at least 8 points in a balanced, well-distributed attack that overwhelmed the visitors. FPA was led by Denori Berry, a 6-9 center who finished with 24 on 9 of 14 shooting.
Unselfish play on the offensive end helped the Tigers win the assists battle 21-15. Hard defense won the team the turnover battle 17-11. But the shooting was truly the strength of the evening for the squad. As a team, CCC finished 41 of 82 from the field (50%) and 22 of 46 from deep (48%) to earn its first victory of 2016-17.
The squad opens its regular season schedule Nov. 3 vs. East Central. Tip in The Pinnacle is slated for 8 pm. A live stream will be available at coahomasports.com/watch.
