BOONEVILLE - The CCC Lady Tigers got a 6th straight double-double from Eugenia Gilliam but could not overcome a slow start in Booneville Thursday, falling to Northeast, 74-60. Melvinisha Jenkins racked up 8 points and 6 boards in the loss.

Northeast got their top scorer Shelby Wilbanks going early. The freshman forward scored the team's first 5 points. The interior presence of Wilbanks on the offensive end and the stout defensive efforts of Bridgejae Patterson helped the Booneville-based squad open up a 21-6 lead at the 1st turn.

CCC would improve in the second quarter, but fell behind 46-29 at the halftime break. A run in the third that culminated in a clinical steal and layup by Janesha Lee at the buzzer reduced the Northeast lead to 5, and it would fall to as little as 3, but, in the end, an 18-10 run to close the game would seal the win for the home team.

Northeast was led by Wilbanks (15 points, 13 rebounds) and Timaya Stewart (18 points, 6 rebounds). Patterson pulled down 11 boards and accumulated a half dozen blocks. The win moved NEMCC to 8-8 on the year and 2-3 in MACJC North divisional play.

Gilliam finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals. The sophomore forward's 6th straight double-double continued to pad a resume that will almost certainly end in a first-team all-conference selection this season. Jenkins and Tomaja Shaw each netted 8 points.

The Lady Tigers (2-14, 0-5 MACJC North) return to The Pinnacle on Monday for a rivalry game with the Lady Trojans of MS Delta (1-14, 0-5 MACJC North). The current CCC roster features 2 former Delta players, Gilliam and point guard Destiny Monix. Tip is set for 6 pm.
