CLARKSDALE - The CCC Lady Tigers dropped their first two games of the season's second half, first falling 102-58 at East Mississippi Thursday and then duking it out with Southern University - Shreveport, 69-62 Saturday. Eugenia Gilliam registered double-doubles in both contests.
The Lady Tigers took to Scooba Thursday but had problems containing the Lady Lion offense (9-2 following their victory over CCC), which posted a 30-point 1st quarter and got a 35-point performance from Quantesha Patterson to notch the win.
Gilliam would finish with 11 points and 11 rebounds, 5 of them on the offensive glass. Lady Tiger forward Tomaja Shaw, after sitting out the first half, exploded in the game's second 20 minutes for a season-high 22 points on the strength of 6 made 3-PT FGs.Â
The Lady Tigers looked to rebound Saturday at homecoming vs. the Lady Jags of Southern University - Shreveport. Looking to avenge their final-second loss to SUSLA in November, CCC once again got a solid performance from Gilliam, who racked up 18 points and 14 boards. Carnita Hammond added 14 points and 14 rebounds herself, but a balanced Southern attack proved too much. The Lady Jags were led by Jada Taylor and Janey Jones, who combined for 28 points. SUSLA shot 78% from the free throw line as a team to earn their second win of the season.
The Lady Tigers (2-12) now return to their conference schedule with a matchup tomorrow night vs. Northwest. The Lady Rangers come to town at 6 pm.Â
