WESSON— The Tiger baseball squad earned their 3rd conference victory of the year Saturday, downing Co-Lin in Wesson 5-4 in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Adam McPhail earned his second victory of the season, and Bailey Lott and Hudson Ross each reached base twice to help defeat the Wolves.
Game 1 was started by Dustin Allen, who turned in his strongest outing of the season. The Holly Springs native pitched 6.1 innings of strong baseball, allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He was relieved in the 7th by McPhail, who would close out the game while limiting a Wolves team that was hitting .292 coming into play to just 1 hit over the final 2.2 frames.
The Tigers got an early RBI from Ross, who brought hom Caleb Lindsey in the 4th with a sac fly. John Pafford picked up an RBI in the 5th that scored Zach Morris, and the team capitalized on 3 Wolves errors in the 6th to put up 2 more tallies.
With the score tied at 4 heading into the 9th, the CCC squad came out swinging. Bailey Lott knocked a leadoff single to get the Tigers off on the right foot. His pinch runner Luis Colon moved to 2nd on a passed ball and then flew to 3rd on a sac bunt by Zach Morris. Another bunt, this time a squeeze by Darius Kendrick, would bring him home moments later to make it 5-4.
McPhail held the lead in the bottom of the 9th, and CCC took the twinbill opener.
Game 2 proved to be a high-scoring affair. The Wolves took advantage of early Tiger errors to hang 6 runs on Garrett Short over the first 2 frames, though none of the runs that Short allowed in were earned.
The Tigers hung tough though, using a 3-run 3rd inning to get back within 1. But the Wolves continued to score steadily, capitalizing for 3 runs in the 5th and then abbreviating the game by going off for a 7-run explosion in the 6th. The final score came in at 17-7.
Hudson Ross racked up 2 hits and 1 RBI in the game, and Bailey Lott racked up 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI in the effort. Lott has reached base safely in his last 9 appearances for the Tigers.
Adam Cook finished 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI, and Caleb Lindsey stole 2 bases and scored 3 of the 7 runs for CCC.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday at home vs. MS Delta. First pitch in the doubleheader will be thrown at noon.
