CCC Baseball Downed By East Central In Decatur Doubleheader

Tigers swept in 2nd conference set of 2015

DECATUR— CCC baseball fell to East Central CC 9-4 and 6-2 in their doubleheader at Jamie Clark Memorial Stadium Sunday. LF Caleb Lindsey and 3B Wesley Dew each finished with 3 hits in the 2-game set.

Ben Hudson took to the hill for the Tigers in Game 1. He was tagged for 5 runs on 4 hits, including 2 homers, and was driven from the game before the frame was through. Michael Allen took his place on the mound and held the Warrior attack down for the most part, limiting the ECCC squad to just 1 more run before the 7th inning.

The CCC offense struggled early against Warrior hurler Colby Eaves, who wove 6 innings of scoreless ball to pick up his 3rd win of the season. After falling behind 8-0, though, the Tiger bats finally found their stroke, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th. John Pafford picked up an RBI double in the frame, and he, Adam Cook, and Darius Kendrick all came across for Coahoma.

The Tigers would add another in the 8th. Caleb Lindsey led off that inning by beating out an infield single to reach for the 3rd time in the game. He was brought home by an RBI double off the bat off Cook, who picked up his 2nd RBI of the season. It was the 4th run scored of 2015 for Lindsey.

In Game 2, it was righty Garrett Short getting the ball for the Tigers. Short too was tagged in the first inning, surrendering a pair of runs on RBIs by Cody Daigle and Kyle McCulloch. Short would last 5 innings and surrender 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 3. The loss was his 4th of the season.

The Tiger offense was once again stalled in the early going. Warrior right-hander Jonathan Simpson put down 15 of the 16 CCC hitters he faced before turning it over to a pair of relievers to finish the game. The Tigers were able to touch up Simpson's relief platoon, with Lindsey smashing a triple and scoring on a Wesley Dew single in the 6th and TJ Knowles roping a double to start the 7th and then scoring on a passed ball.

Unfortunately, the Tigers would get no closer than 6-2, falling in Game 2 to drop to 1-13 on the year and 1-3 in MACJC play.

The Warrior improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in conference competition.

The CCC squad travels to Northwest MS CC Tuesday, March 17th for a doubleheader with the Rangers. First pitch in the games will be thrown at 3 pm.
