MDCC Trojans Spoil Men's Hoops Home Finale

Forrest, Bronson, Wilkins all in double figures for Tigers

CLARKSDALE—The CCC Tiger basketball team closed out its 2014-15 home schedule with a 74-63 loss to the Mississippi Delta Trojans Thursday night. Da'Quan Forrest led the way for the Tigers with 15 points in 26 minutes.

The Tigers, who were previously defeated by Delta in Moorhead 93-67, came out ready to play. CCC matched the Trojan intensity and, with the help of 4 3-pointers in the first half, managed to take a 29-28 lead into the locker room.

Unfortunately, Delta was able to regroup and get some hot shooting from beyond the arc from guard Darius Dukes to seize the lead early in the 2nd half. Dukes knocked down 3 3-pointers at the beginning of the period on his way to leading MDCC with 23 points in the contest.

Willie Bronson and Rufus Wilkins each finished with 13 for the Tigers. Wilkins finished 8 of 10 from the line. It was the 2nd double digit scoring game of the season for the Friars Point native, who was activated and inserted into the Tiger lineup in early January.

The contest marked the 3rd consecutive game in which Forrest has finished in double figures, and it was the 6th game in a row that Bronson has accomplished the feat. The dynamic first-year pair are leading CCC in scoring, with Bronson at 13.8 PPG and Forrest up 11.0 PPG.

With the loss, the Tigers now stand at 1-20 overall and 0-11 in MACJC North play. By earning the victory, the Trojans sealed up the 4th seed in the MACJC playoff race. They are now 10-13 on the year and 6-6 in divisional play.

CCC now travels to Booneville to take on Northeast in a makeup game on Saturday. The contest, which was originally scheduled for February 16th but delayed due to inclement weather, will be the regular season finale for both squads.

Tipoff in Booneville is slated for 3 pm.
