Lady Tigers Go Out On Top At Home vs. MS Delta

CCC staves off late MDCC surge to earn win

CLARKSDALE— The Lady Tiger basktball team finished off their 2014-15 home schedule on a high note Thursday night, downing rival Mississippi Delta by a final of 64-60. Josta Totten scored 19 and Shontrel Williams finished with a double-double to help the CCC women grab their first win since November 11th.

The Lady Tigers pounced all over the Lady Trojans in the first half, getting it done on both ends of the floor to help build a 46-25 halftime advantage. The stifling CCC defense held MDCC to just 7 of 33 shooting from the floor in the 1st period, and the Lady Tiger attack was relentless getting to the basket and cleaning up missed shots on the offensive glass.

The Lady Trojans turned it on in the second period, improving their shooting to 36% from the field. They consistently hacked away at the CCC lead and pulled with 4 with just over 5 minutes remaining. But the Lady Tigers bore down and got stops when they needed them to earn a victory in front of a raucous crowd in The Pinnacle. Totten set a new personal season high of 19 points while also dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 8 rebounds. The Itta Benna native has now scored in double figures in 15 of 21 games this year. Shontrel Williams came off the Lady Tiger bench to score 12 points and grab 10 boards— 9 of them in the first half— to lead the way on the glass for CCC. It was the first double-double of the year for Williams.

With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 3-18 on the year and 1-10 in MACJC North play. The loss dropped Delta to 7-16.
CCC now travels to Booneville to take on Northeast in a makeup game on Saturday. The contest, which was originally scheduled for February 16th but delayed due to inclement weather, will be the regular season finale for both squads.

Tipoff in Booneville is slated for 1 pm.
