Northeast Ends Lady Tiger Season With A Loss

CCC downed in Booneville despite strong games from Totten, Williams, and Collins

BOONEVILLE—The CCC Lady Tigers dropped their final game of the year to Northeast in Booneville Saturday, going out by a final of 78-67. Josta Totten led CCC in scoring with 18 points.

CCC struggled early against a tough NEMCC defense. Northeast limited the Lady Tigers to just 8 points over the game's first 10 minutes and kept the visitors to just 3 of 11 FG shooting and 20 points in the 1st half.

Totten, a sophomore from Itta Benna playing in her final game in a CCC uniform, turned in one of her best performances of the season. Her 18 points were tops on the CCC team, and they marked the 3rd consecutive game that Totten has reached double digits in scoring. The point guard also dished out 3 assists.

Shontrel Williams, a reserve forward from Greenwood, turned in another strong game as well. Williams, who got her 1st double-double of the year on February 19th vs. Mississippi Delta, finished 3 of 4 from the field and 7 of 12 from the free throw line on her way to 13 points. She also pulled down 7 rebounds in 25 minutes on the floor.

Erica Collins, the reigning MACJC Player of the Week, was limited to 20 minutes by foul trouble but still managed to pour in 12 points, grab 5 boards, and pick up 3 steals. Collins finishes the season as the leading scorer (14.8 PPG) and rebounder (8.7 RPG) for the Lady Tigers this season.

CCC managed to trim the deficit in the 2nd half, but could not get back within single digits. NEMCC was led by Daisha Williams, who finished with 12 points and 4 assists, and Jasmine Allen, who added 11 points of her own, to help the home squad reach their 11th win of the year.

With the loss, Coahoma finishes the year 3-19 overall and 2-15 in conference play. Their first MACJC North divisional victory came last week vs. Mississippi Delta.
