CLARKSDALE—The Lady Tigers battled hard last night against the NWCC Lady Rangers, giving the second-seed in the MACJC North a tough road test before ultimately falling 95-84. Erica Collins, Ariel Jones, Josta Totten, and Amber Sisk all finished in double figures for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers matched the visitors virtually blow for blow over the first 12 minutes of the game. With 8:24 to go before the break, CCC trailed by just 4. But the Lady Rangers used a 27-16 run to close out the half and build a 53-39 halftime lead. As a team, NWCC shot 58% from the field in the 1st period.
Erica Collins put up her second consecutive double-double. The sophomore center finished 23 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes. Ariel Jones also finished with a double-double, racking up 17 points and 11 boards in 32 minutes. It was the 3rd double-double of the year for the Canton native.
The Lady Tigers were the better team in the 2nd half, outscoring the Lady Rangers 45-42 to close out the game. Josta Totten poured in 12 of her 16 points in the period. Collins and Totten each finished 5-of-6 from the line in the closing half.
Though the Lady Tigers were not able to ultimately bridge their halftime deficit, they still proved they could hang tough with the Lady Rangers who had previously beaten the team 110-56 in Senatobia. The win was the 18th of the year for NWCC.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fall to 2-18 and 0-10 in divisional contests. They will play their final road game of the season Monday, February 16th vs. NEMCC in Booneville. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm, but inclement weather is threatening to push the contest to 1 pm. A decision on game time will be made this weekend.
