Lady Bears Silence CCC Softball Bats In Summit

Lady Tigers manage just 1 hit in doubleheader losses

SUMMIT—The Lady Tiger softball team opened their season with losses in both games of their doubleheader at Southwest MS CC Tuesday. Both games ended in 13-0 Lady Bears wins, and both were decided in only 4 innings.

Gabrielle Lee started Game 1 for CCC. She pitched 3 innings, surrendering 9 hits, 4 walks, and 13 runs. Payton Lewis and Jessica Pipkins each tagged her for multiple hits, and 4 different Lady Bears scored at least 2 runs. The CCC defense did not give Lee much support. The Lady Tigers committed 5 errors in their 3 turns in the field.

Macy Fulton started the contest for Southwest and used just 52 pitches to methodically mow down the Lady Tigers. She threw a perfect 4 innings (0 R, 0 H, 0 BB) and struck out 10 on her way to earning the W.

In Game 2, the Lady Tigers once again sent Lee to the mound. This time out, the Clarksdale native managed to hold down most of the Lady Bears lineup. Sarah Roberts, Maddy Teague, Austin Pruitt, and Seana Flynn were the only Southwest hitters to tag her, though they were able to do the necessary damage. Flynn finished 3-for-3, Roberts teed off for 2 homeruns, and Teague and Pruitt each racked up 2 RBI on the way to sending Lee to her 2nd loss.

The Lady Tiger hurler did manage to help her cause, getting CCC's only hit of the afternoon. Other than that, the Lady Tiger offense was flummoxed by the Southwest combo of Keely Fortenberry and Leeann Jackson. Fortenberry struck out 3 and did not allow a hit on her way to earning the victory.

CCC softball is back in action Tuesday, February 17th. The Lady Tigers will head to Wesson to take on Copiah-Lincoln. First pitch in their doubleheader will be thrown at 1 pm.
