CLARKSDALE - The Lady Tigers were defeated by East Central 98-70 on the floor of The Pinnacle Monday night. It was the second time they have lost to the Lady Warriors this season. Sophomore forward Eugenia Gilliam finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.
CCC showed great improvement from their first game against East Central, posting 40 points in the first half alone after scoring just 44 total in Decatur. But once again, the potent Lady Warrior attack proved to be just too much. Alexia McDonald and Samantha Duncan each poured in 23 en route to another victory for a sophomore-heavy team that racked up 20 victories last season.
Carnita Hammond improved her streak of consecutive games with 15 points to 4, racking up 18 in only 17 minutes of work. The Lady Tigers, unfortunately, were without PG Destiny Monix for a good deal of the game. Monix, a sophomore transfer who dished out 5 assists in each of the team's games in Shreveport, exited in the first half with a knee injury and did not return.
For Gilliam, Monday night's superb all-around performance amounted to "business as usual". The Coahoma County High grad has now scored at least 21 in each of the last 3 games and has pulled down at least 5 boards in 6 of 7 contests this season. She is shooting 47% from the field for the year.
CCC will reset and have a chance to get back on track Monday, November 23rd at Meridian. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Eagles 69-65 in a well-fought battle on November 9th. Tip in Meridian for the rematch is slated for 5:30 PM.
