Bossier Parish Wins Shootout With Lady Tigers, 106-95

Jenkins, Gilliam, Hammond combine for over 60 points

SHREVEPORT - The Lady Tigers were defeated by Bossier Parish 106-95 Saturday in Shreveport. The game was the conclusion of the Southern Classic for the CCC women, who, for the first time this season, had 3 players with 20 or more points. Carnita Hammond led the way with 24.

CCC got off to a strong start behind Melvinisha Jenkins, who would finish with 20 points and 8 boards, and got off to a 27-21 lead after 1 quarter. The team would fall behind 47-44 at halftime, but were able to keep the game close until late in the 3rd, when Eugenia Gilliam, who finished with 21 points in just 26 minutes, drew her 5th foul. The loss of Gilliam, who has averaged over 17 PPG and who scored 45 points in 2 games at the Southern Classic, was one the team could not overcome, and Bossier was able to open the contest up late.

Hammond's 24 points tied the team-high for individual scoring this season. She also grabbed 6 rebounds. Most impressively, she did her damage in under 20 minutes of floor time.

Unfortunately, the game-high scorers wore Bossier Lady Cavs jerseys. Their 6 ft. point guard Diamond Willis proved unstoppable, going off for 34 points while dishing out 4 dimes and pulling in 6 rebounds. Desiree Lyons would add 29 points of her own as Bossier sealed its 6th victory of the season.

The Lady Tigers will look to rebound tonight on the floor of The Pinnacle vs. East Central. Tip is scheduled for 6 pm.
