Lady Trojans Dominate Glass, Second Half In Moorhead

MDCC drops the Lady Tigers to 2-14

MOORHEAD—The Lady Tigers suffered another road defeat Monday, falling 84-63 at Mississippi Delta. CCC was led by Josta Totten, who posted a game-high 18 points and 10 assists in the loss.

The Lady Tigers hung with the Lady Trojans in the first half, shooting the ball 40% from the field and 75% from the line to stay within striking distance. But MDCC used their advantage inside to open up a 10-point lead heading into the break and then run away with the game in the second half.

The Lady Trojans, who dominated the boards in the first half, were even stronger around the rim in the second. The final rebounding totals tell the tale: MDCC racked up 52 boards to the Lady Tigers' 25. The Lady Trojans turned their 21 offensive rebounds into 24 second chance points and outscored the Lady Tigers 36-22 in the paint. Niya Head, the Lady Trojan forward/center, was particularly effective inside, racking up 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Racquel Harper, Mary Washington, Aqueshia Kimble, and Eugenia Gilliam also finished in double figures for the Lady Trojans, who moved to 5-11 on the season.

Totten was the bright spot for the Tigers offensively. The sophomore from Itta Benna recorded her second double-double and scored in double figures for the 11th time this season. She finished a perfect 9-of-9 from the line in the game and was one of only two Lady Tigers to score 10 or more in the game. Ariel Jones finished with 10 to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

With the loss, the Lady Tigers drop to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the MACJC. They now travel home to take on Itawamba CC on Thursday, January 29th. Tipoff in The Pinnacle is slated for 6 pm.
