Northeast Gets Hot, Wins Battle Of Lady Tigers In Clarksdale

NECC gets victory despite big game from Erica Collins

CLARKSDALE—Northeast CC proved to be too much for the Lady Tigers Thursday evening, outplaying CCC down the stretch to secure a 64-50 victory. Erica Collins racked up 19 points and grabbed 12 boards in a season-high 36 minutes in the loss.

Coahoma shot the ball just 24% from the field in the first period but hung tough on the defensive end to keep the NECC lead to just 5 heading into the break. As a team, CCC recorded 10 steal in the contest, their 3rd-highest total of the season.

Unfortunately, they struggled to take care of the basketball on the offensive end, turning it over 32 times and allowing 23 points off those miscues. It was the 5th time this season that CCC has turned it over 25 or more times in a game.

NECC found their shooting stroke in the 2nd half. They made 17 of their 27 shots from the field to outscore CCC 40-31 after the break and earn their 8th win of the year. NECC was paced by Lakeiya Lane and Bridgejae Patteron, who each scored a dozen. The Northeast squad featured 5 players in double figures. Their bench outscored Coahoma reserves 28-6.

For Collins, the CCC Lady Tiger center who seems destined to be an all-MACJC selection, it was the 6th double-double of the year and her 3rd in the last 5 games. Ariel Jones added 9 points and 5 boards of her own, and Amber Sisk poured in 7 of her own, but it was simply not enough to overcome a gritty NECC outfit.

The CCC squad dropped to 2-13 with the loss. They will continue to seek their first MACJC North win Monday, January 26th at Mississippi Delta CC. Tipoff in the contest is slated for 6 pm in Moorhead.
