Northeast Battles Back, Squeezes Past CCC Men

Coahoma loses early lead, nearly stages comeback of its own

CLARKSDALEThe CCC Tigers dropped their home contest to Northeast Thursday night 82-75. Da'Quan Forrest and Rufus Wilkins scored 22 and 18 respectively, but their efforts were not enough to stop a surging NECC squad.

Forrest was money once again from deep, sinking 5 3-pointers to lead the Coahoma attack. The home team started hot, outscoring Northeast 37-14 in the first 11 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, NECC was able to cut that lead to 6 heading into the break.

The visitors were led by the star point guard Dimario Jackson. Jackson finished an outstanding 12 of 16 from the field on his way to a game-high 32 points. Desmin Harris added 12 of his own for NECC.

Northeast managed to wrestle the lead away from CCC less than 9 minutes into the 2nd half. They opened the game up, but the Coahoma squad hung tough and pulled within 4 with just over 3 minutes to go.

CCC trailed by just 3 with 15 seconds to go. With a chance to tie, Willie Bronson attempted a long 3 that was just off the mark. NECC then hit late free throws to earn their 6th straight win and their 11th victory overall.

Coahoma fell to 1-14 with the loss and 0-5 in MACJC North play. Wilkins, playing in just his 5th game for the Tigers, scored in double figures for the 1st time. It was the 3rd time this season that Forrest has gone for over 20 points, and his 2nd time in the last 2 games. Michael West III scored 10+ for the second consecutive game. The freshman point guard also added 6 assists in the effort.

The Tigers hit the road again on January 26th to take on Mississippi Delta CC in Moorhead. Tipoff in the contest is scheduled for 8 pm.
