Rangers Rally On Home Floor, Edge Tigers

CCC can't hold on after early 2nd half explosion

The Tigers played their most exciting game of the year Tuesday night, taking the NWCC Rangers down to the wire before ultimately falling 84-80. Da'Quan Forrest and Willie Bronson scored 22 and 20 respectively, but the Rangers managed to overcome a late deficit and send CCC to its 4th MACJC North loss.

Forrest was on fire in the 1st half. The freshman from Kosciusko knocked down 3 3-pointers on his way to 16 points in the 1st period. Bronson added 9 of his own, and the Tigers trailed by just 1 going into the locker room.

Michael West III helped CCC take over the game right after the break. The Fort Washington, MD-native scored all 15 of his points in the second half. Led by West, the Tigers blitzed the Ranger defense and began the 2nd period on 28-13 run to give them a 65-49 lead with just 10:43 to go.

But the Rangers slowly worked back into the game, whittling away at the Tiger lead. Finally, after trailing for virtually the entire second half, NWCC was able to tie it on a 3 by De'Sean Dockery with exactly 2:00 remaining. The triple was part of a 15-0 run for the Rangers that gave them command of the contest. When it was done, they led 83-76.

Rather than roll over though, the Tigers managed to score with under a half minute left and then force a turnover that led to a Cadarrius Cannon layup. Trailing by just 3, CCC then managed to cause another Ranger turnover, giving them a final shot at tying the game. Da'Quan Forrest very nearly did so on an attempt from long distance, but his shot was just a touch off the mark. Sharwyn McGee grabbed the rebound and hit 1 of 2 free throws with under 0:04 to go to seal the win for NWCC.

The loss pushed the Rangers to 2-3 in MACJC North play and 8-6 overall.

The Tigers now stand at 1-13. They will try once again for their 1st divisional win of the season on Thursday when Northeast MS CC comes to The Pinnacle. Tipoff in the men's game is slated for 8 pm.
