CLARKSDALE—The CCC Tigers dropped their Monday night contest vs. the Holmes CC Bulldogs by a final of 84-68. The loss sank the Tigers to 0-2 in MACJC North play.
Willie Bronson helped CCC come out of the gate strong. The freshman from Belzoni scored 10 in the game's first 5 minutes to keep the Tigers in it. Bronson would finish with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Sophomore Anthony Dorsey also had a great game on both ends of the floor. The Mound Bayou native finished with 14 points and 3 blocks. MACJC Player of the Week Da'Quan Forrest knocked down some big shots as well. His 3 with 10:35 to go in the first half briefly gave CCC a lead. Unfortunately, Holmes tied the game seconds later and did not look back, finishing the half on 23-10 run to build a 46-33 lead going into the locker rooms.
As a team, CCC shot 46.4% from the field in the first half, but lost their touch in the second. In the final period, they hit less than 37% of their attempts from the field and only 21% of their 3-pointers.
Still, they found a way to stay in the game. Bronson nailed a 3 with 7:56 to go to cut the Holmes lead to just 5. But once again, the Bulldogs came on strong at the end, finishing the game on a 21-10 run to seal their 6th win of the season.
Holmes was led by Daryl Macon, a freshman from Little Rock who entered the game averaging 25.0 PPG. Macon did not disappoint, finishing with 27 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, 3 of 6 shooting from deep, and 12 of 12 shooting from the line to help his team move 2 games over .500 on the season.
CCC now stands at 1-8 overall, 1-5 in the MACJC, and 0-2 in the MACJC North. They travel to Little Rock on Thursday for a rematch with Arkansas Baptist. Tipoff vs. the Buffaloes is slated for 8 pm.
