FULTON—The Itawamba Lady Indians dealt the Lady Tigers another big loss Thursday night, downing the CCC women by a final of 94-52. The loss was the third in a row for the Lady Tigers, who have yet to win on the road this season.
Itawamba came out of the gates on a devastating 30-6 run. The Lady Tigers had no answer for a high-octane Lady Indian attack that was led by the trio of Kaelin Kneeland, Alontra Tucker, and Jayla Chills. The three of them combined for 54 of Itawamba's 91 total points, 7 of their 17 assists, and 9 of the team's 16 steals.
The Lady Tigers struggled to take care of the ball during large stretches of play, turning it over 28 total times in the contest. CCC outscored Itawamba 28-26 in the paint, but simply did not have it from distance. The Lady Tigers finished the game 1 of 13 from 3-point range and just 18 of 56 from the field overall.
Of course, the game did have its bright spots and big moments. Ariel Jones netted 14 points, and Shontrel Williams added 11 on 3 of 3 field goal shooting in 16 minutes off the bench. Erica Collins scored 8 points and grabbed 10 boards to pace the Lady Tigers on the glass. It was the fifth time that Collins has grabbed at least 8 rebounds in a game this season.
Itawamba took a 44-18 lead into the locker rooms, but the game was much closer after the break. With the victory, the Lady Indians move to 6-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers drop to 2-6 and now stand at 1-4 in MACJC contests and 0-1 in North Division play.
CCC heads home to prepare for Holmes, who comes to town on Monday, December 8th. Tipoff in the ladies' game is scheduled for 6 pm.
