CLARKSDALE—The CCC Lady Tigers fell once again last night, going down to the Holmes CC Lady Bulldogs by a final of 89-61. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the CCC women.
Amber Sisk and Erica Collins were the engines of the Lady Tiger offense, combining for 36 of the team's total 61 points. But the rest of the team struggled to score. No other Lady Tiger finished with more than 6 points, and as a team, CCC shot just 41% from the field in the first half and 35% from the field in the second.
The Holmes squad was paced by Aja Williams, a freshman guard from Jackson, poured in 28 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Memphis native Minyone Hill netted 13 points of her own while passing out 3 assists and grabbing 3 steals to help her squad to its 8th win of the season.
The Lady Bulldogs used a "platoon" system throughout the game, with subs entering play en masse. The constant lineup changes worked to their advantage— Lady Bulldog subs outscored Lady Tiger subs 29-8.
Holmes took an 8-point advantage into the locker room at half. They were not particularly effective from distance, finishing the night 2 of 11 from 3-point land, but were able to finish around the rim, outscoring the Lady Tigers 38-8 in the paint. They put it all together in the second period, hanging 50 points on the Lady Tigers in the game's final 20 minutes to seal the win.
After a 2-3 start, the Lady Tigers have now dropped 4 in a row. With the loss to Holmes, they drop to 0-2 in North Division play and 1-5 in the MACJC. They close out their first semester schedule on December 11th vs. Arkansas Baptist, whom they defeated 86-81 last month. The game will be played in Little Rock. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
