National Champs Use Hot Second Half To Rout Tigers

Jones County scores 60 in second period to ice win

Ellisville—The Tigers dropped another tough one Monday night, falling to Jones County by a final of 95-66. The CCC men were led by Da'Quan Forrest, who sank five 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 17.

The Tigers hung tough in the first half against the reigning NJCAA champs. After falling behind 17-7, CCC reeled off a 7-0 run fueled by strong work in the paint by Demarcus Bracey and solid outside shooting by Zedric Bass and Willie Bronson that pulled the team to back within 3. Though the Jones squad rebuilt an 11-point lead at halftime, the Tigers were a long way from out of it.

But things changed in the second half, as the Bobcats upped the tempo in the second half and managed to pull away. They were led by Rodrigus Palmer, a Flora native who finished the night with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Otis Harvey added 16 and sophomore point guard Bryce Jones netted 15 of his own to cement the victory.

Cameron Monix turned in another solid performance for the Tigers, dishing out 7 assists and pouring in 8 points while committing only 1 turnover. But it was Forrest who finished with the most impressive line. The freshman guard from Kosciusko was money from long distance. He knocked down 5 of the 10 triples he launched and is now shooting over 40% from three-point land on the season.

The win was the sixth in a row for Jones County, who are off to a perfect start in their title defense. The 2013-14 national champs have not lost all season.

The Tigers now stand at 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They prepare to take on Itawamba Thursday. A live stream of that game will be available on coahomasports.com.
