Lady Tigers Can't Keep Up With Jones In Ellisville

Lady Bobcats spoil Forrest's return to Jones County

Ellisville—The CCC Lady Tigers could not keep up with Jones Monday night.

The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats used lights-out shooting and utter dominance in the paint in the second half to blow the game wide open and bury the Lady Tigers by a final of 117-80. The reigning MACJC state champions were paced by Taylor Baudoin, who poured in a game-high 24 points to help deal the Lady Tigers their fifth loss of the season.

 

Gabrielle Gilbert turned in another solid performance for CCC, who trailed just 59-49 at half. Gilbert, who is averaging 17.3 PPG, shot 7 of 14 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point land on her way to 19 points. Josta Totten added 15 in 39 minutes of work, but the night ultimately belonged to Jones County.

The Lady Bobcats used a suffocating press to hold the Lady Tigers to just 31 points in the second half.The Lady Bobcats had their way inside, outscoring CCC 40-12 in the paint. They also forced 31 Lady Tiger turnovers, capitalizing on those mistakes for 39 points. 

The win was the sixth straight for the Jones County ladies. They wore the relatively-thin Lady Tigers bench out with a relentless and balanced attack. As a team, the Lady Bobcats shot an astounding 68% from the field in the first half and even more impressive 75% in the second half. Seven Lady Bobcats finished in double figures, and the Jones bench outscored the Lady Tiger reserves 46-17.

The game was Danetra Forrest's first vs. Jones since leaving her position as an assistant at the school to become the head coach at CCC. The loss was the second in a row for her Lady Tigers, who fell to East Central shortly before the Thanksgiving break. They now stand at 2-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They will take on Itawamba CC Thursday in a rivalry matchup in Fulton. A live stream of the game will be available on coahomasports.com.
