SHREVEPORT—Erica Collins and Gabrielle Gilbert turned in huge performances for the CCC Lady Tigers Saturday. Each went for over 20 points vs. Bossier Parish, but their efforts ended in vain, as CCC fell by a final of 97-78. It was the third loss of the season for the Lady Tigers and their second in Shreveport.Â
The Lady Tigers kept it close early, but BPCC seized a 2-point lead on a bucket by Elania Baytop at the 12:27 mark in the first half and never looked back from there. They led by 12 at half and outscored CCC 50-43 in the second half to seal the win.Â
Collins had her way down low, powering her way to 26 points and 14 rebounds, gaudy statistics that are becoming routine for her in the 2014-15 season. Gilbert shot 8 of 11 from the field on her way to finishing with 21 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Josta Totten added 16 of her own, but the story of the game really lay in points scored off the bench. Depth continued to be a problem for the CCC squad. BPCC reserves poured in 35 points, while the Lady Tiger subs managed just 2.
Turnovers also proved to be a problem for CCC. BPCC won the turnover battle 19-10 and capitalized for 24 points after Lady Tiger giveaways. As a team, CCC is averaging 19.33 turnovers per 40 minutes.
CCC now travels back to Clarksdale to take on Arkansas Baptist at home. That game will be played Tuesday in The Pinnacle. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
