Lady Tigers Drop First Matchup in Shreveport

SU-Shreveport holds off late CCC surge for the win

The Lady Tigers nearly pulled off a miracle comeback Friday night in Shreveport. Trailing by 12 with only 3:14 to play vs. Southern University-Shreveport, the women of CCC refused to quit, pulling within three before a last minute desperation heave by Amber Sisk fell short and sealed the win for the Lady Jaguars.

Though Southern led wire-to-wire, the Lady Tigers stayed within striking distance, trimming the SUSLA lead to just 1 a couple of minutes into the first half. The Lady Tigers were led by Gabrielle Gilbert who went 4 of 7 from the field and 10 of 13 from the line en route to a game-high 18 points. Erica Collins and Josta Totten added 15 and 12 respectively, and Errica Blair poured in 10 in the valiant CCC comeback effort.

In the end though, Southern was simply too much. The Lady Jags bench outscored CCC reserves 35-17. Despite committing more turnovers and being outrebounded 39-27, Southern was able to pull it out for the first win of their 2014-15 season.

The Lady Jags committed a series of rash fouls down the stretch that allowed the Lady Tigers to sink free throws and trim the lead. Down just three with a second left, CCC had a final opportunity off of a sideline inbounds pass. But Amber Sisk's impossible last second attempt fell short, dashing the Lady Tigers' hopes.

With the loss, the CCC women drop to 1-2 on the year.
