East Central Bests Lady Tigers In Decatur

Lady Warriors use big run early, drop CCC

DECATUR—The CCC Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Warriors of East Central Monday night by a final of 107-72. Gabrielle Gilbert finished with 24 points to pace the Lady Tigers, but her efforts were not enough to keep the CCC squad from sinking back to two games below .500 on the season.

ECCC put the foot on the gas pedal early, starting the game on a 20-6 run. They would not look back from there, pouring in 59 points before the break and heading to the locker rooms with a 23-point advantage. The Lady Warriors were led by Jelesia Jones and Samantha Duncan, who each netted 17 points in just 20 and 19 minutes respectively.

The Lady Tigers struggled with fouls all game. Josta Totten, who finished with 13 points, and Erica Collins, who finished with 2, both fouled out within the first six minutes of the start of the second half. The losses of those two key contributors depleted an already-thin Lady Tiger bench and reduced the chances of stopping the East Central onslaught. Shontrel Williams contributed 6 points off the bench in support, but the Lady Warriors were an unstoppable force near the rim. They outscored the Lady Tigers 48-16 in the paint.

The loss was the fourth overall on the season for the Lady Tigers and their second in as many weeks vs. ECCC. The Lady Tigers now get a chance to rest and regroup over the Thanksgiving break. They return to action on Monday, December 1st at Jones County Junior College. Tipoff in that contest is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
