DECATUR—The CCC Tigers traveled to East Central CC to take on the Warriors Monday night, and in front of a raucous, even hostile, crowd gave the home team a serious run for their money before falling by a final of 78-74.
The Tigers were led by LaTerrence Henderson and Cameron Monix, who each finished with 18 points. Henderson had his long distance working, dialing up a 3-6 mark from long range. Monix was particularly impressive late, knocking down 2 triples and a circus layup late in the second half to keep the Tigers close. Willie Bronson was also impressive for the Tigers. Bronson poured in 16 points in just over 20 minutes of play, none bigger than a lay-in that made it 77-74 with 7 seconds to go, but foul trouble limited him on what otherwise was poised to be a monster night.
East Central used a big game by Ravion Henry to secure the victory. Henry finished the game with 16 points, but the scoring was evenly distributed throughout the Warrior lineup. 8 players scored at least 7 points, and as a team, ECCC shot over 45% from the field in each half.
Thanks to Monix's heroics, CCC trailed by just 3 with 7 seconds to play. The Tigers fouled Ramone Tate off a Warrior inbound, and the ECCC point guard was able to knock down 1 of 2 to, if not ice the game, then at least refrigerate it. Da'Quan Forrest's 3 attempt with 3 seconds left was off the mark, and the night belonged to the home team.
The loss was the Tigers' fifth on the season. They were beaten by ECCC 75-55 on November 3rd, but that game has been forfeited by the Warriors, who were using an ineligible player. CCC now gets a chance to rest over the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action December 1st at Jones County Junior College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
