Coahoma Community College is buzzing with excitement as we welcome Victor Montgomery as the new Assistant Track Coach! With a stellar background in athletics and a rich history of leadership, Mr. Montgomery is set to bring a powerhouse of experience and dedication to our track and field program.
Victor Montgomery's journey is nothing short of extraordinary. After a distinguished 22-year career in the United States Army, where he served 14 years as an army recruiter and held a significant tenure as a Military Police Investigator, Montgomery retired in 2020. A combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment. From 2005 to 2008, he trained soldiers from the National Guard and Reserve on detainee operations, showcasing his expertise and dedication to mentoring.
Post-retirement, Montgomery transitioned seamlessly into the private and public sectors as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. He currently excels as the Talent Acquisition Supervisor at McLane Company, where he continues to showcase his exceptional recruiting skills. His academic achievements are equally impressive, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Post University in Connecticut, focusing on leadership and organizational management. This strong educational foundation, coupled with his military experience, has equipped him with unparalleled organizational and leadership skills.
Montgomery's passion for track and field is deeply rooted and well-documented. From 2014 to 2019, he was the Head Track and Field Coach for the Southwest Mississippi Roadrunners, mentoring young athletes aged 8-18. Under the USATF Southern Association, he taught them essential social skills and the fundamentals of running, jumping, and throwing. In April 2023, he launched his youth program, Speed Unit, in Desoto County, further cementing his dedication to developing young talent.
His leadership extends beyond the track. As Vice President of the USATF Southern Association from 2008 to 2016 and again from 2018 to 2020, Montgomery oversaw operations and hosted numerous track and field events in Mississippi and Louisiana, often managing up to 1200 athletes. His roles as Acting President and Youth Chair in 2018 and 2020 highlight his ability to lead and inspire.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Victor Montgomery leads a fulfilling personal life. He and his wife Tarika are proud parents of seven children and three grandchildren. The Montgomery family is actively involved in Brown Missionary Baptist Church in Southaven. In his spare time, Victor enjoys traveling to local high school, collegiate, and professional track and field events, staying connected to the sport he loves.
