Luster Tyler II is a 22-year alumnus of Coahoma Community College. He returns for the third year as Coahoma’s assistant coach. He comes with over 15 years of experience as a head coach on the high school level in basketball, track and football. His portfolio is decorated with many successes in both sports and in the academia arenas.
Prior to coming to Coahoma, Coach Tyler was hired by the Clarksdale Public School District where he took on the title of coach. During his tenure there, he was named the Region 2 5A Coach of the Year twice. He is also a two-time Press Register Coach of the Year. He led his high school girls’ basketball team to several District Championships, a North State Championship, and their first spot in the state semi-finals since the 1980s. His portfolio also consists of several Gatorade Players of the Year, Track and Field State Champions and record holders, and Clarksdale High School’s first female Dandy Dozen.
After joining the Coahoma Agricultural School District in 2011, Coach Tyler continued his success in the athletic department. He led the girls’ basketball team to their first playoff game in more than two decades and as the offensive coordinator, their football team became District Champs.
As an avid believer in the concept of the student-athletic, Coach Tyler is a three time ACT STAR teacher. He takes great pride in his ability to bring mathematics to life.
Tyler is married to the former Jacqueline Buford and they have one daughter, Kelita, a Coahoma Community College graduate and now a senior at Delta State University.
He and head coach Michael Stringer have worked the sidelines together for 16 years.
Tyler is also the pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church in Clarksdale.
