Dell Cannon enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Coahoma men's basketball program for the 2025-2026 campaign. Under Cannon's leadership, the program has achieved historic milestones, including its first Final Four appearance in the Region 23 tournament.
Current Impact
Cannon has transformed the Tigers into a postseason contender. He tripled the team's win total in his first season and reached 15 wins in his second. His commitment to academic and athletic excellence is evident: the team maintains a 3.11 GPA and a perfect graduation rate. Ten of his players, including three NCAA Division I signees, have secured four-year scholarships. The program has also produced three all-conference players and one first-team All-Region 23 selection under his watch.
Before Coahoma
He previously coached at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he helped develop the 2017-2018 SWAC Player of the Year, Martaveous McKnight, and several all-region and all-conference selections. Before UAPB, Cannon was an assistant coach at Mississippi Valley State University, helping the Delta Devils secure SWAC regular-season and tournament championships in 2008 and 2012. Over his career at MVSU, he produced two SWAC Tournament MVPs, a conference Player of the Year, two Black College All-Americans, and helped 12 players move to the professional ranks.
Personal
A native of Lyon, Mississippi, and a former Coahoma Tiger himself, Cannon holds a bachelor's degree in health and physical education and a master's in administration and leadership from MVSU, as well as a master's in secondary health, physical education, and recreation from UAPB.
