CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Coahoma Community College volleyball made history during its inaugural home match, but the Lady Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeast Mississippi Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 2, inside Marion M. Reid Gymnasium.
The evening marked a significant milestone for the Department of Athletics, establishing a new athletic tradition in Clarksdale as the team took the court in front of a supportive home crowd. Despite the electric energy inside the newly renovated facility, Northeast secured the straight-set victory with scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-12. The loss moved Coahoma to 0-2 on the season, while the visiting Tigers improved to 3-5 overall.
The Coahoma offense worked to find a rhythm against a tough Northeast front line. Erin Cook led the Lady Tigers' attack with two kills, while Neliah Bell, Miyah Nickey, Jakayla Foulks, and Caliyah Raphael added one kill apiece. Raphael also directed the offense with a team-high two assists and secured Coahoma's lone service ace of the evening.
Defensively, Coahoma displayed maximum effort to keep rallies alive, combining for 21 total digs throughout the three sets. The back row was anchored by Samone Burdine, Nickey, and Raphael, who tied for a team-high five digs each. Hannah Parker contributed three digs, while Cook, Foulks, and Bell each added one dig to the defensive total.
At the net, Bell led the defensive front with two block assists. Lamonica Beck and Kasey Taylor also made their presence felt by registering one block assist each to slow down the Northeast attack.
For Northeast Mississippi, Addy Hicks paced the floor with a match-high 13 kills, and Eliza Whitenton provided heavy service pressure with five aces.
The Lady Tigers will return to the practice court to regroup and prepare for their next Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference matchup. Coahoma travels to face East Central Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
