CCC Tigers pick up big win against Southwest Bears

In a hard-fought MACCC conference basketball game at Clarksdale, MS, the Coahoma Community College Tigers faced off against the Southwest Community College Bears.

The game unfolded methodically, with both teams cautiously navigating the early minutes. The Bears managed to secure a narrow 4-2 lead with fifteen minutes remaining in the first half.

The tempo of the game shifted when Arthur Tate, exhibiting composure in the face of adversity, sunk a crucial three-pointer, breaking the shooting slump and propelling the Tigers to a 5-3 lead. Tate continued to make his mark, adding another pull-up jumper and remaining a standout performer for the Tigers throughout the first half. With four minutes left, the Tigers held on to an 18-17 lead.

However, the Bears seized the momentum with a 9-1 run, managing to take a 26-19 lead as the first half neared its conclusion. Closing out the initial period with a 30-24 advantage, the Bears showcased resilience and control. The second half witnessed the Bears building on their momentum, extending their lead to 40-27 with 16 minutes to play.

Undeterred, the Tigers, led by the dynamic duo of Jaqai Murray and Arthur Tate, initiated a spirited comeback, narrowing the gap to just two points at 42-40. The tide turned when Korea McKay sunk a pivotal three-pointer, swinging the lead back in favor of the Tigers at 46-44. Capitalizing on their newfound momentum, the Tigers expanded their lead to 55-50 with seven minutes left in the second half.

The game reached its pinnacle when Korea McKay delivered a resounding slam dunk, putting an exclamation mark on the Tigers' resurgence and sealing the victory at 69-60 with a mere 1:38 remaining in the second half. The Tigers' strategic play, coupled with individual brilliance, ultimately secured a hard-fought win.

Looking ahead, the Coahoma Community College Tigers are set to go on the road February 22nd, where they will face the Co-Lin Wolves at 7:30 PM.
