Recap of the Lady Tigers’ first seven games of the 2022-23 season

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the CCC women's basketball program over the past few seasons.

In the 2020-21 season, the Lady Tigers went 15-3 (12-2 North) en route to being MACCC North co-champions, MACCC co-champions, and the runner up in the NJCAA DI Region 23 Tournament.

Last season, Coahoma reached the conference championship game and the regional semifinals. The Lady Tigers won 21 games, and head coach Stephanie Murphy was named the MACCC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year in her fourth season with Coahoma.

As for the 2022-23 team, the Lady Tigers returned Tiara Abron, Tiana Abron, Marshayla Purnell, and Elishia Wilson from last season. In addition to those returners, CCC added Sequoia Bouldin, Jamyia Bowen, Mackenzie Carter, Janiya Jones, and Jamea Smith.

This season, the Lady Tigers are currently 4-3 (0-0 MACCC) with two of their three losses being by three points or less. The other loss occurred against then No. 1 Tyler Junior College.

CCC opened the season with a 73-55 win over Southern University-Shreveport in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following two losses, the Lady Tigers won their home opener 68-62 over Baton Rouge Community College.

That was followed by a 64-52 victory over Mississippi Delta and a 58-42 win at East Central Community College. Coahoma's first home loss of the season occurred against Southern Arkansas University Tech 55-53 on Dec. 8.

The Lady Tigers are 4-0 this season when they score at least 54 points. They are 3-0 when they record at least 15 assists. Through seven games, only TJC has scored more than 62 points against CCC.

Coahoma is slated to face Chipola College on Dec. 30 and Midland College on Dec. 31. Both of those games will be played in Lake Charles, LA.
