Lady Tigers Dominate Lady Jaguars at Homecoming 2020

CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Lady Tigers was looking forward to some payback against Southern-Shreveport. The Lady Jaguars got a 65-53 victory on Dec. 5, 2019, in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Lady Tigers delivered their best performance of the season in an 82-48 Homecoming victory.

Coahoma took an early 11-4 lead. Jurnee McLaurin and Iitasha Paty tossed consecutive baskets for the Lady Tigers. Southern-Shreveport came back late in the first quarter with a three-pointer by Teeona Barkley, which cut the lead to 13-12.

The Lady Tigers answered with a three-pointer by Jada Harris to extend the lead to 18-14.

The game shifted into high gear during the second quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Jaguars 27-9. Barkley made a three-pointer to start the second quarter. Southern-Shreveport cut the lead to 18-17. Coahoma exploded with a 20-0 run. Ayani Cockrell, Brailyn Tate, and Amaria Strong served driving layups; the Lady Tigers extended the lead 38-17.

McLaurin scored a three-pointer to give Coahoma a commanding 45-23 lead at the half.

Southern-Shreveport (8-7) had two players to score in double figures. Barkley led the Lady Jaguars with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Ah'Million Cosby tallied 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Three from the Lady Tiger squad sealed the matchup with double figures. McLaurin led the Lady Tigers with 22 points and three rebounds. Cockrell finished with 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Tate concluded with 16 points and eight rebounds. The women's team goes to 7-7 on the season.

After the women's game, Coahoma Community College honored Mr. and Ms. CCC Basketball.

CCC crowned Jada Harris crowned Miss Basketball. The sophomore guard from Tutwiler, Mississippi, was recognized for her hard work and dedication to CCC Women's Basketball, as well as high all-around character. She has earned a 3.8 GPA and is part of a team improving its overall GPA.

Tyler Berryhill wore the crown as Mr. CCC Basketball. The sophomore guard from Webb, Mississippi, was recognized for striving for excellence and for his commitment to CCC Men's Basketball, as well as admirable qualities. He has earned a 3.4 GPA, which has contributed to a squad with the best overall team GPA at Coahoma Community College.
