The Mighty Tigers Soar High in Battle with Warriors

CLARKSDALE- Coahoma's Mighty Tigers sought to end a tough week on a positive note. They suffered dreadful losses to East Mississippi and Holmes. The Tigers picked up some inspiration after witnessing the 1986-87 Coahoma Tigers Basketball team get honored with a championship banner for winning the MACJC State Championship in 1987. The Tigers had a good showing that resulted in a 41-24 homecoming victory against the Faith Prep Academy Warriors at the Pinnacle.

Coahoma took an early 8-4 lead on a pair of jumpers by Dequan Morris and Jaborris Frazier. Faith Prep resurged with a jumper by Demarcus Tornes, setting the lead at 8-6.

The Tigers answered with an 11-0 run. Terry Williams knocked down a three-pointer to extend the lead to 19-6. The Warriors bounced back with an 8-0 run cutting the lead to 19-14. Elliot Brooks scored consecutive three-pointers.

Kendall Richardson stepped up for Coahoma by knocking down consecutive three-pointers. The Tigers extended the lead to 30-19. Faith Prep tried to stay in the game with a pair of layups by Kyler Carter and Laquan Davie, cutting the lead to 32-24.

Coahoma closed out the 1st half on a 9-0 run. Morris drove through the line for a high-flying dunk.

The game was suspended at halftime due to a campus-wide power outage. The power was out for over an hour the game. As a result, Coahoma and Faith Prep made a mutual agreement to not continue the game, giving the Tigers the victory.

Davie led Faith Prep with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Brooks finished with six points.

Morris led Coahoma with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Williams finished with eight points. Tiras Bolden scored eight points and six rebounds.
