CLARKSDALE- Coahoma and East Mississippi Community College battled in a defensive struggle in the MACJC North division. The Lady Tigers' team efforts put them in the lead with a score of 49-45 while 2:50 remained on the clock. Tatyana Norment and Emily Evans scored consecutive layups with 16 seconds left. The Lady Tigers were up for the win, but Khiyee Robinson missed a jumper at the buzzer to give the Lady Lions a 51-50 victory.

Coahoma began strong with consecutive baskets by Walneika Holmes. The Lady Tigers took an early 13-4 lead. East Mississippi went on an 11-2 run, cutting the lead to 19-17 at the half. Tye Metcalf sparked the Lady Lions with subsequent layups.

East Mississippi (5-9, 0-3 MACJC North) took their first lead with 20-19 on a three-pointer by Metcalf. Coahoma answered with a pair of baskets by Robinson and Arianna Thigpen, which took the Lady Tigers to a 26-20 lead.

Evans scored consecutive layups to close out the 3rd quarter, tying up the game at 32-32.

The Lady Tigers took charge early in the 4th quarter, leading with 41-35. Holmes and Dzondria Young scored a pair of layups. Aamiya Rush knocked down a three-pointer for East Mississippi to put the Lady Lions at a 41-40 lead.

Thigpen built momentum and scored six straight points that extended the lead to 48-42 with 3:28 remaining.

Metcalf led East Mississippi with 19 points, two rebounds and six steals. Evans finished with eight points, five rebounds and two assists. Normant finished with eight points.

Three of Coahoma's players ended the game in double figures. Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 17 points and six rebounds. Thigpen contributed 12 points and two rebounds. Young pitched in 10 points and eight rebounds.

Coahoma goes to (4-8, 0-3 MACJC North) on the season. The Lady Tigers will take on Holmes in an MACJC North Division game on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 in Goodman, Mississippi.
