CLARKSDALE- Coahoma's Lady Tigers looked forward to setting the tone in the MACJC North division against Northeast Mississippi Community College. Both teams battled vigorously throughout the game, but Northeast outscored Coahoma 19-10 in the 4th quarter and ended up with a 60-49 victory.
Northeast (6-2, 1-0 MACJC North) had a hot start with three-pointers by Dayzsha Rogan, Dominique Caldwell and LaJayla Turnage. The Lady Tigers took an early 18-7 lead.
Walneika Holmes got things going in the 2nd quarter with a layup that cut the lead to 20-13. Rogan answered with a three-pointer for Northeast, extending the lead 25-13. Coahoma finished the 1st half strong with Arianna Thigpen scoring consecutive layups, which cut the lead to 29-18 at the half.
Coahoma came back with a 10-2 run in the 3rd quarter. Khiyee Robinson and Thigpen scored a pair of layups to give Northeast a 34-32 lead.
Northeast answered with a layup by Cherelle Jones that extended the lead to 41-36. Ukari Pimpton knocked down a jumper at the buzzer to cut the lead to 41-38.
Northeast Lady Tigers went on a huge 10-2 run in the 4th quarter. Jones and Rogan scored a pair of layups to give Northeast a commanding 58-44 lead.
Three players scored in double figures for Northeast Mississippi. Rogan led the Lady Tigers with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jones had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Tekeria Newson scored 11 points and six rebounds.
Two Lady Tigers scored in double figures. Thigpen led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, three steals and two assists. Robinson scored 13 points and two rebounds.
"Our focus was to get rebounds and we neglected that all night," said Coahoma Head Coach Stephanie Murphy. "We struggled shooting the ball all night. That's why you have to rely on defensive rebounds."
Coahoma goes to (3-5, 0-1 MACJC North) on the season. They will take on Arkansas Baptist for the 3rd time this season on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
