Harris Once Again Pours In 19 At Mississippi Delta

Tigers' comeback effort falls short vs. MDCC

MOORHEAD - The CCC Basketball Tigers fought hard but could not overcome an early deficit in their rivalry game vs. Mississippi Delta Monday night. MDCC used a strong 1st half to build a 48-25 lead at the break on their way to a 90-73 victory. Tarquise Harris scored 19 points for the 2nd straight game.

Harris would score the 1st 8 of the contest for the Tigers, but a 10-0 Delta run in the game's opening minutes erased an early Tiger advantage. The Trojans were led by Queshod Young, who scored 13 of his 15 in the 1st half.

After falling behind by 31 in the 2nd half, the Tigers fought back. With the help of Malcolm Batteast and Frank Anthony off the bench, the team cut the Delta lead to 9 in the game's final 5 minutes. The Trojans were able to use a final run to inflate the final deficit to 17.

Anthony finished with 12 points and 5 assists, and Nkosi King reset his personal season-high with 12 points of his own. Batteast finished with 6 points and 6 boards. Malik Bailey netted 16 points. The sophomore from West Tallahatchie High has now scored in double figures 5 times in the last 6 games and 9 times overall this season.

The contest was the 2nd straight in which Harris scored 19 for the Tigers. The freshman also added 4 assists and a steal. He has now scored at least 14 in 5 of the last 7 contests.

5 different Trojans scored in double figures to help Delta improve to 3-3 in MACJC North play and 8-9 overall. The loss dropped CCC to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in divisional play.

The Tigers return to action Thursday at Northeast for a rematch of their December 5th contest vs. NEMCC, which they dropped 72-65. Tip in Booneville is slated for 7:30 pm.
