SENATOBIA - Despite a strong game from power forward Melvinisha Jenkins, the Lady Tiger Basketball squad fell at Northwest 84-66 Thursday evening. Jenkins, a freshman from Friars Point, enjoyed her second straight double-double with 23 points and 13 boards, 5 of them on the offensive glass.
CCC started the game strong, riding 8 quick points from Tranika Echols to an early 12-8 lead. But behind a strong performance from reigning MACJC Player of the Week Sara Lytle, the Lady Rangers would seize the advantage and use a 17-1 run to build a 25-13 lead by the end of the first period. They would not look back on their way to their 15th overall victory of the season.
Northwest shot 45% from the field in the victory. Five Lady Rangers finished in double figures, including Lytle, who led the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds.Â
Jenkins, who finished with 16 points and 10 boards vs. East MS on Monday, was stellar all game for the Lady Tigers. The freshman went 11 of 19 from the field and added 2 blocks and steal to her stat line. Her 23 points were a season-high.
Echols finished with 11 points, and Eugenia Gilliam narrowly missed out on her 10th double-double in the last 11 games with 13 points and 9 boards.
The Lady Tigers (4-17, 2-8 MACJC North) celebrate Sophomore Night Monday in The Pinnacle vs. Northeast. Tip against NEMCC is slated for 6 pm.
