CLARKSDALE -
The Coahoma Lady Tigers could not overcome a blistering start by the Itawamba Lady Indians in The Pinnacle on Thursday, falling 83-55. Eugenia Gilliam and Tatyana Brownlee combined for 30 points. The Lady Indians came out strong on the defensive end and reeled off a 20-4 run in the opening quarter. The Lady Tigers would find their shooting stroke in the second stanza but trailed 36-24 headed to the locker rooms.
Itawamba would then use a 47-point second half to run away with the contest. They were led by Aaliyah Thornton, who finished with 18 points. Treasure Evans, Erika Toney, and Alontra Tucker also finished in double figures for ICC, who earned their 4th road win and their MACJC-best 7th overall W this season.
For Gilliam, who netted 18, it was the 9th time in the team's first 10 games this season that she has racked up at least 15 points. The reigning MACJC player of the week would add 8 rebounds and a steal. Brownlee's 12 points (3-of-5 from beyond the arc) were a personal season-high.
The Lady Tigers returns to action at Holmes on Monday. Tip in the women's game will be 6 pm.
